So It Begins 03:00
Oh, so it begins. Your hold on me is weak. Slender threads that bind me to you are brittle, soon to break. I could have faith but faith is a weakness that makes fools of us all. Casting aside holy symbols of torture, into the dark I fall. Now as I wait for a twist in the tale to prove your bad logic right. Silence replies, in beautiful dawn I wake to a new light.

She wants to be home again, All she has is a memory lost in time, A feeling, not tangible. Maybe next year she'll find it. Sometimes she sees a sign, A flicker in a stranger's eye, Familiar as wood smoke, But like fires of home he fades. Dark clouds fill my eyes I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again. Through wild storms that have broken. I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again. Tormented by regret, Guilt from unstated promises, His body made to all the lovers he knew he couldn't keep. He hates the man he was, Through who's eyes he sees them every night, Pictures frozen in time, Haunting and suffering. Dark clouds fill my eyes I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again. Through wild storms that have broken. I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again. Time is not linear, Sometimes it flows in retrograde, Spirals and whirlpools, And sometimes I can't escape. Dark clouds fill my eyes I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again. Through wild storms that have broken. I'm running, I'm running but curving of time pulls me back here again.

Now I run down the tunnel heading for the light. I've survived. You owe me one year of my precious life. You believed that everything you see was yours to own. It felt like theft every time I said 'I want to be alone.' I will take the shame, you will take the blame. I can make this on my own. Broken bonds, broken bones and broken promises. From the start I had my doubts but didn't act on them. Your want for me was fuelled by jealousy but now I'm free. Hopefully your anger and your need have left with me. I will take the shame, you will take the blame. I can make it on my own. I will take the shame, you will take the blame. I can make this on my own. When I didn't feel so tall. Six foot four could feel so small. When I kept my head down so I wasn't seen. But now I kick and scream. Even in my dreams I can't escape. Your arms like snares, wrapped in velvet, honey as the bait. Now I see that every word you told me was a lie. I couldn't cope outside my cage. Stand back and watch me fly. I will take the shame, you will take the blame. I can make it on my own. I can take this shame, can you, can you take the blame? I can make this on my own.

When Morta came to take me away, I left behind my final, frenzied verse. There was a battle raging hard, In my head full of unwritten words. I've been exploited all my life, Now I see in death it's just the same. Through the smoke I see anonymous shapes, Making money from my pain. Call it a tribute, you can call it what you like. I'll never rest as long as this anger fills my mind. They want to be everything I ever was, They can't be, they can't feel, All the ugliness and pain that drove me. I cried the day I wrote these lines, Delivered by some smiling man. I poured my soul into each phrase, None of these fraudsters understand. Call it a tribute, you can call it what you like. I'll never rest as long as this anger fills my mind. They want to be everything I ever was, They can't be, they can't feel. With their privileged lives, Oh, they wouldn't really want to be me. But now they dance on my stage, With a mock-up of my clothes. I'd damn them if hell was real. Oh, I wish I was allowed to take revenge, Don't celebrate unless it's free. Because it's ugliness and pain that drove me.

Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see the truth at last. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see you as you are. Maybe it's the dark night that's bringing out your demon, Something in the candlelight. The stranger in front of me has stolen your identity. You're giving yourself away, it's oh so subtle but it's there, And you seem to know it. Don't think I don't know exactly where your gaze is straying. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see the truth at last. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see you as you are. Had I been too love-blind so see what always had been there? Love burned like a searchlight. You speak with freedom, Set traps for me to fall right in to. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see the truth at last. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see you as you are. There is something in the atmosphere, An honesty so rarely seen, it's unnerving. Every filter has been removed, Every subtle flaw, Every act of war is revealed. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see the truth at last. Now my eyes are open Now my eyes are open. My eyes are truly open and I see you as you are.

Open your mind, read these books of mine. (I heard you, now hear me) Learn to change your mind and change your side. (I heard you, now hear me) You tell me that there must be more than this, So I ask you 'what more do you want?' Recognize that beauty lies in understanding. Just because I need some proof before believing miracles and Because I don't gladly suffer fools. Just because my earth is round and herbs and crystals do not heal me, Does not mean my mind is closed. Wacks and quacks and snake oil industries, (I heard you, now hear me) Siphon billions from those who believe (I heard you, now hear me) You tell me that there must be more than this, So I ask you 'what more do you want?' The lover's hand you hold on to is made from stardust.. Just because I need some proof before believing miracles and Because I don't gladly suffer fools. Just because I value truth and flags are flying on my moon It does not mean my mind is closed. And the irony is this: For your natural drugs to work, they've got to break the laws of nature. Just because I'm moved by what I see, (I heard you, now hear me) It does not mean a soul resides in me, (I heard you, now hear me) It's the beautiful illusion of a pilot flying this machine. You tell me that there must be more than this, So I ask you 'what more do you want?' You've decided what defines you and now your mind's closed. Just because I need some proof before believing miracles and Because I don't gladly suffer fools. There are no gods in my skies and I don't claim to have the answers. Does not mean my mind is closed.

The transformation was complete. I was the more powerful me. Confidence, peace, the sweet release, Of the art that never lets me sleep. And as my eyes closed on the stage, I was in some kind of ZERO STATE, How could you leave, do this to me? Immersed in magic we'd create. How could you leave when we thought we could change the world? I'm not made to be someone's second choice. All that we longed for was still ours to take, And it was cruel to leave just when we found our voice. And no, I don't wish you success. Am I supposed to be impressed? My jealousy? Well, maybe. Try anger, betrayal and sadness. How could you leave when we thought we could change the world? I'm not made to be someone's second choice. Ten poor excuses don't make a good one, And it was cruel to leave just when we found our voice. How could you leave when we thought we could change the world? I'm not made to be someone's second choice. All that we longed for was still ours to take, And it was cruel to leave just when we found our voice. How could you leave when we thought we could change the world? I'm not made to be someone's second choice. I'm stuck in an endless cycle of grief, Don't you know you built the dreams you now destroy?.

There's a picture on her wall, A laughing girl standing on the sand all drenched in sun, Amber against the blue in deepening dawn, She is happy. Her life had potential, she could have been anything, Privileged in all but beauty and that's not her fault, The fates and cruel. I wish I could be different. See the brilliant, wild eyes without fear in their innocence, Sunken down in a quiet resignation once more. How I wish I could be the one to make them shine again. In her dreams she will always be on that sunlit shore. There's a picture on her wall, swimming with dolphins, But now she swims with sharks but insists on throwing them bait. Perhaps the chase gets her heart thumping. Is there something I could do? Will warm arms and heart be enough? I can't give more, this one life is all that I have. This charity is beyond my means. See the brilliant, wild eyes without fear in their innocence, Sunken down in a quiet resignation once more. How I wish I could be the one to make them shine again. In her dreams she will always be on that sunlit shore. There's a picture on her wall, a mother, a father, Smiling in their love, And hiding the deep, raging storm that tore apart her childhood. See the brilliant, wild eyes without fear in their innocence, Sunken down in a quiet resignation once more. How I wish I could be the one to make them shine again. In her dreams she will always be on that sunlit shore.

Here I stand reading the words as if they were true. It pays for my beautiful home, communal respect. Fleecing the flock and all tax free. Spreading delusion does not bother me. It's just the reassurance that they need. I'm glad that hell and heaven aren't real. Because where I'd end up is borderline. Redacted book, friendly and nice. No word of slaves and genocide. When my conscience comes calling late at night. I talk to the sky but it never replies. Breaking the spell, the myths on Sunday, Open your eyes and hope that some day, This madness dies out, We must break the spell. Breaking the spell, unanswered questions, Are better than your unquestioned answers, Wake up, human race and break the spell. Society forces you to respect, Immune to logic or paradox, Mysterious plans, an answer to all, Feel free to open Pandora's box. Whether enticed by the kind, public face, Or accepting Pascal's wager just in case. Breaking the spell, the myths on Sunday, Open your eyes and hope that some day, This madness dies out, We must break the spell. Breaking the spell, unanswered questions, Are better than your unquestioned answers, Wake up, human race and break the spell. At least I don't have to cut, just share my wine. But dealing the people's opium is no crime. Breaking the spell, the myths on Sundays, Open your eyes and hope that some day, This madness dies out, We must break the spell. Breaking the spell, unanswered questions, Are better than your unquestioned answers, Wake up, human race and break the spell. Wake up and live your one life, Do your best for all of mankind. With no promise of eternal reward, Do your best for man not a lord. Wake up and live your one life, Do your best for all of mankind. With no promise of eternal reward, Do your best for man not a lord. Wake up and live your one life, Do your best for all of mankind. With no promise of eternal reward.

Barney Byron Northampton, UK

Welcome! Here you'll find my latest self-recorded albums.
Stylistically, it's all over the place. What starts off as one thing often ends up as another. It's all about the songs that I seem to spend my life chasing. They occupy my mind for a while, I record them and move onto the next one. I'm hugely self conscious about them but here they are, for the world to hear if it would like to listen. ... more
